LABORATORY SUPERVISOR – Full-time with benefits.  Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Wastewater Operations the Lab Supervisor will perform a variety of standard methods for testing wastewater, sludge and related waters and solids for the Sewer Utilities Laboratory.  Primary duties will be in the laboratory however, it is understood that work assignments outside of the laboratory, including the performance of labor and maintenance work in the sewer plant and/or Public Works Department, may be given.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: performs standardized tests for all Montgomery Township’s Wastewater Treatment Plants; perform and coordinate all day-to-day wastewater laboratories activity; QA/QC on all instruments used in regulatory reporting and maintenance of all instruments; prepare annual schedule for sampling to meet the Permit criteria for all (4) plants; determine sampling bottle needs for the Contract Laboratory; prepare Outside Laboratory contract in cooperation with the Purchasing Agent; prepare annual budget for laboratory chemicals/equipment and plants testing; carry out annual Proficiency Testing as required by NJDEP for Laboratory Certification; maintain composite samplers in conjunction with Plant Operators; oversee Operators and staff that carry out any of the regulatory testing; coordinate with the Plant Operators and Contract Laboratory for the proper sampling for regular monthly, semi-annual, annual sampling as well as SQAR and Bioassay sampling for all plants; distribute data to Plant Operators for DMR preparation; assist Operators by running operational tests as time allows; recognize possible operational problems based on laboratory results and notify plant operators; order supplies as needed.  Required skills & knowledge include: knowledge of the principles of qualitative and quantitative chemistry, mathematics and biology; working knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology and procedures; ability to perform standardized tests quickly and accurately as well as analyze and interpret results; ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and ability to record test results, keep accurate records and prepare analytical reports.  Desired skills & knowledge include: Chemical Hygiene Officer; Right to Know Coordinator.  Candidates must have a Bachelor Degree in Biological, Environmental Science or Chemistry with the minimum of 1 year laboratory experience or Associate Degree with at least 3 years laboratory experience; prior experience in wastewater treatment facility preferred.  A valid NJ Driver’s License and NJ residency are required.  If you would like to be considered, please submit your letter of interest and resume to Tamarah Novak, Personnel Coordinator, at tnovak@twp.montgomery.nj.us or in person to the Township Administration office, 2261 Route 206, Belle Mead, NJ 08502.  EOE.

MUSIC TEACHER – Part-Time (27.5 hrs/wk) from 9:15am-2:45pm.  Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Kid Connection the Music Teacher will provide instruction to their preschool and kindergarten classes utilizing a variety of visual and hands on materials; designing an age appropriate learning environment which encourages the students’ development socially, intellectually, academically, physically and emotionally, while integrating music and the arts into the program curriculum.  Required skills and knowledge include: the ability to work well with others, and be proactive within the classroom and with children;  knowledge of the needs and best interests of children; knowledge of principles and techniques of early childhood music education; knowledge of techniques used in counseling children when needed for appropriate learning strategies; strong communication & presentation skills; proficient on a musical instrument – preferably a piano.  Candidates must have a Bachelor of Arts at minimum in Music; Specialized training/certification in early childhood music education; experience teaching children in a school setting.  Desired Education/Certification/License includes: possession of a valid Teaching Certificate, or Certificate of eligibility valid for teaching in a public school, which includes supervised practice teaching and student teaching experience.  A valid NJ Driver’s License and NJ residency are required.  If you would like to be considered, please submit your letter of interest and resume to Andrea McKenna, Director of Kid Connection, at amckenna@twp.montgomery.nj.us or in person to the Kid Connection office, 265 Burnt Hill Road, Skillman, NJ 08558.  EOE.

Summer Camp Employment
Montgomery Township is hiring camp counselors and C.I.T.’s for the 2019 Summer Camp Program running June 26 – August 9, 2019.  In order to be considered for a camp counselor position you must be mature, outgoing, energetic and responsible; be able to attend a mandatory camp orientation on Saturday, June 15, 2019; be available for the entire duration of our camp (June 26-August 9, 2019).  We do not allow vacation time.  Mandatory sports camps or college orientations are excused.  However, documentation is required and we must know dates prior to the start of camp.  If you are under the age of 18 you must provide working papers from your high school.  Please visit the Guidance Department at your high school for more information.

The CIT Program provides teenagers (ages 14 and 15 by June 25, 2019) with the opportunity to gain valuable experience as a volunteer member of the Montgomery Township Recreation Summer staff.  Participants too young for employment may contribute their time and energy to receive important hands-on training in caring for children in a playground setting.  C.I.T.’s will work with campers in 1st-6th grade.  For further information, please call the Montgomery Recreation Department at (609) 466-3023.  One (1) letter of recommendation must be sent separately from the employment application to the Recreation Department (see address in link).  C.I.T.’s must be able to: attend a mandatory orientation meeting on Saturday, June 15, 2019; conduct themselves in an appropriate manner; follow the directions of their site supervisor and other Recreation Department staff; be present for 85% of the camp program (must work 5 days a week for 5 out of the 6 weeks of camp).  **Please note there are limited positions available – applications must be received by April 1, 2019.

SENIOR SEWER PLANT OPERATOR – Full-time with benefits.   Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Wastewater Operations in Public Works the Senior Sewer Plant Operator will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of sewage treatment plants.  Work is performed in accordance with procedures and policy guidelines set forth by the Superintendent of Public Works or another appropriately designed supervisor to whom unusual and emergency problems are referred.  This position reports directly to the Director of Wastewater Operations and may direct the work of other Sewer Department employees.  Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Makes regular inspections of plant and equipment to ascertain that it is in proper operation; monitors records; gauges meters and other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure proper quality of effluent; makes changes or adjustments in plant operations as required to improve the treatment process; keeps abreast of professional developments in wastewater treatment fields; keeps records and prepares reports; performs laboratory tests when required; starts, stops and makes repairs to pumps, motors and equipment; works overtime as needed or required; performs other work as required or assigned, most notably in the collection system, pump stations or any of the other sewage treatment facilities; when not engaged in Senior Sewer Plant Operator activities performs the tasks of Sewer Plant Operator I, Sewer Maintenance Man, or Sewer Laborer; full responsibility for the operation of an S3 treatment plant, including Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR’s) Waste Characterization Reports (WCR’s) and Residual Transfer Reports (RTR’s).  Required skills and knowledge include thorough knowledge of sewage treatment plant principles and operating practices, good mechanical ability, and some knowledge of laboratory procedures with respect to the testing of wastewater.  Desired skills and knowledge include four (4) years of demonstrated success in the operation, repair and maintenance of sewage treatment plants.  Required Education/Certification/License include possession of an S3 Treatment Operator’s License issued by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection; High School Diploma or equivalent; any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job. PUBLIC HEALTH NURSEPart-time (19 hrs/wk) or full-time (35 hrs/wk).  Under the direction and supervision of the Health Officer the Public Health Nurse will provide skilled public nursing service and health counseling in the community, schools, and public health department.  The Public Health Nurse will teach, counsel & conduct epidemiological investigations; provide nursing services to individuals & families in the community for public health agency; use knowledge from nursing, social and public health science to promote and protect the health of populations through the performance of core public health functions and deliver essential public health services.  Other duties include but are not limited to: investigating and documenting communicable disease reports; providing vaccinations to children & adults under “standing orders”; immunization audits at schools and daycares; individual and group diabetes/chronic disease management education (“Taking Control” or equivalent evidence-based program) and prevention; participates in community screening events and follow-up; develops protocol for insurance reimbursement for eligible preventive services; implements Employee Wellness programs for municipal workforce and other employers; emergency preparedness community education and disaster response.  Candidates must have a BSN from an accredited college or university (candidates within 6 months of receiving a BSN will be considered); a NJ State Board of Nursing License; a minimum of one year experience in public health preferred; experience in assessing & identifying populations at risk: providing outreach & case finding using population-based services and using systematic, relevant data collection from public health nursing practice for community health assessment; experienced use of case information and epidemiological methods to link epidemiology and a clinical understanding of health and illness.  Must complete a course in population-based public health nursing within one year of employment.  A valid NJ Driver’s License and NJ residency are required.  If you would like to be considered, please submit your letter of interest and resume to Tamarah Novak, Personnel Coordinator, at tnovak@twp.montgomery.nj.us or in person to the Township Administration office, 2261 Route 206, Belle Mead, NJ 08502.  EOE. 12/05/18
